Hallmarks of Excellent Home Renovations

How do you recognize an excellently done home renovation? Here are some guidelines I like to use:

  • Clean finishing. Crisp paint lines. No paint where it's not supposed to be.
  • Well-cut joints in woodworking that evidence time and care was taken in their cutting assembly. These can be seen where moldings meet, between rooms at threshholds in the floors, and where non-matching products meet (think cabinetry to drywall, ceramic tile edging).
  • Quality materials used - smooth finishes, attractive and eye-catching qualities of products (example: light fixtures, plumbing fixtures).
  • Building Permits signed off on at the end of the project with Certificate of Occupancy issued to the owner/contractor.

Good looking spaces that make the eyes roam throughout with pleasing feelings ~ you really LIKE what you see, even though it may not be your personal taste. You recognize the excellence when it's there and LIKE it!

Often, substantial equity & potential re-sale profit is available to those who can see a home's potential in the rough, create a carefully-planned renovation for it and see it through. Have you ever thought of investment real estate for just such a scenario?
